Babylonia was an ancient empire in the Near East in southern Mesopotamia.  The ancient city of Babylon was believed to be a magnificent city of wealth and power according to the biblical references.  In the early 19^th century, the archeologists discovered the foundation of the city which revealed that the prosperity of Babylonia and certain situations told in the bible were actual occurrences.
