Collecting cultural artifacts and antiquities is an excellent way of paying tribute to ancient civilizations. Whether you are a private collector or purchasing for a commercial gallery, the key is to find the best relics and antiquities at the lowest possible prices.
The Pre-Columbian civilization of Veracruz, in Central Mexico, can trace its roots all the way back to around 1300 B.C. This civilization was actually comprised of four different groups of people, the Olmecs, who were one of the oldest Mexican cultures, plus the Huastecos, Otomíes and Totonacas. Today, the descendants of the Veracruz culture are known as the Otomí, which are the fifth largest ethnic group indigenous to Mexico.
The Veracruz civilization endured some difficult times, from Spanish invaders to conflicts with other Central Mexican cultures. When they weren't defending their lives, they were a highly artistic people, devout to their Gods and centered around their families. Their crafts included some beautiful terracotta ceremonial masks, like the ones in our gallery below.
