The Bambuti people, or the four different groups of people that are known collectively as Bambuti, are peaceful, nature loving hunters and gatherers that live in the Ituri Forest, in eastern Congo. The Bambuti are pygmies, and besides venerating the great forest, they also make curious fertility statues.
The statues you’ll find on this page are authentic Bambuti statues, made in the 19th and early 20th century. They often feature emphasized stomachs, as well as genitals, and they are made either in wood or in terracotta. Overall, they are a necessary item for anyone collecting native African art.
