Colorful, carved limestone wall fragment with an image of Mut, the vulture goddess of the sky who was seen as the great earth mother and the loving, receptive, nurturing force behind all things. Mut was the wife of the god Amun and the mother of the moon god Khonsu. Together the three gods were called the Triad of Thebes. Mut wears a collar and a headdress with a modius and a vulture. The white vulture of Egypt was considered to be a highly maternal and protective bird. Incised linear details on the headdress and the collar. Colors include dark orange, yellow ochre, green, dark blue and black. Light earthen patina. New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty.
