Carved limestone canopic jar with Hapy, the baboon headed son of Horus and protector of the lungs, and a winged scarab on the removable stopper. Incised hieroglyphs, symbols and designs on the body of the jar including: Horus Behdety, a symbol of protection depicted as a winged sun disc, a winged scarab, cartouches and birds. Canopic jars were used by the Ancient Egyptians during the mummification process to store and preserve the organs of their owner for the afterlife. Dirt patina. Ptolemaic.
