Ptolemaic. 305-30 BC (4" x 11"); Greek, Macedonian silver Alexander the Great tetradrachm coin designed in a modern circular vermeil pendant setting of 22kt gold plate finish over pure silver. Alexander the Great was the first world conqueror and one of the most remarkable men in history, his armies capturing most of the civilized world. He not only introduced a uniform currency system, but promoted trade and commerce. Desiring to be supreme ruler, all provinces were required to worship him as a God. Alexander believed he was a direct descendant of Hercules. Before each battle and after each victory, ritual sacrifices were performed honoring both Hercules and Zeus and he selected their images to appear on these coins. 336-323 BC (1" )
